Landholders in North Queensland will receive free digital mapping support when AgForce Projects heads to the region in March.
CSG Project Leader Daniel Phipps said the workshops are a vital tool for producers who want to be running the most efficient property, while ensuring the long-term and sustainable productivity of their land.
"Property computer mapping provides a bird's eye view of a property, which helps with property planning, grazing strategies, property recovery, monitoring, improving productivity and succession planning."
"Developing a map can assist producers with property improvements such as coordinated pest control and help them achieve Grazing Best Management Practices (BMP) standards," Mr Phipps said.
"Specifically, landholders can plot their property boundaries and identify weak spots in regards to the control of feral pests; as well as create buffer zones around watering points to reduce grazing pressure and manage vegetation. A comprehensive property map also goes a long way with funding applications like drought relief."
The CSG Project Leader said the workshops are also a great tool for landholders entering into negotiations with resource companies.
"Our workshops teach landholders how a map of their property can help in negotiating where and when a resource company conducts their activity on their property and how it can assist in determining fair compensation."
"Often a resource company will come to you with a map of proposed infrastructure for your property. Having a comprehensive map of your property will put you in a better position to negotiate an agreement and address impacts of mining and resource development on your business," Mr Phipps said.
"This is a great opportunity for attendees to learn from other landholders, as well as learn practical property computer mapping skills."
Landholders will have the opportunity at the workshop to start on their own property maps and take their work home on USB along with a trial version of Phoenix Mapping to help them get started on comprehensively mapping their property.
The workshops are being held from 8.45am to 4pm, on:
- 24 March - Richmond
- 25 March - Hughenden
- 26 March – Charters Towers
