Central Queensland region round-up

June and July have proven to be busy with a heavy schedule of sessions including property computer mapping in Tara, Moonie and Goondiwindi, and CSG information sessions in Winton, Isisford, Aramac and Muttaburra. AgForce Projects also attended the 2012 AgGrow Field Days in Emerald in Mid-July and although the weather was pretty terrible, many brave souls were still in attendance.

›› Arrow Energy

This month the Department of Environment Heritage and Protection (DEHP) issued a DRAFT Terms of Reference (TOR) for Arrow Energy’s Bowen Gas Project. This is the first step towards the development of a full environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Bowen Basin CSG expansion project. Arrow CEO Andrew Falkner announced that this would involve a staged development of up to 7,000 wells over the next 40 years, with a well lifespan of 15 to 20 years. This expansion includes areas 30km north of Glendon to 10km south of Blackwater with potential for the following infrastructure: pipelines, gas processors, power generators, and water treatment and storage facilities. The TOR can be viewed by logging onto DEHP’s website or Arrow Energy’s  website  or by calling 1800 038 856.

Landholders in the Taroom/Wandoan areas are voicing concerns over reduced compensation payments offered by mining company Xstrata to buy properties following a recent court decision ruling in the Queensland Land Court. Xstrata is currently undergoing application processes for the construction of a 30,000ha open cut coal mine. Xstrata have made purchase settlements with 42 out of 45 landholders throughout the Xstrata tenure area.

Westside Corporation’s CSG activities in the Bowen Basin seem to be progressing with the corporation announcing recent daily sales at the Meridian SeamGas project reaching 13.5 terrajoules per day which is an increase of 15.4% on a month-by-month basis. Westside operates the Meridian SeamGas CSG gasfields 160km west of Gladstone in Queensland's Bowen Basin in a joint venture with Mitsui E&P Australia. These recent sales relate to new wells at the project with two wells flowing in excess of 1 million cubic feet per day.

›› New regional plans for Central Queensland

The Queensland Government is committed to preparing a draft version of the Central Queensland Regional Plan and making it available for public comment in early 2013. The final Central Queensland Regional Plan is scheduled for release in mid-2013. This plan is intended to resolve land use conflicts arising from agricultural and mining activities; foster diverse and strong economic growth; plan and prioritise infrastructure; and manage impacts on the environment. The first meeting was convened on 27 July 2012 and there will be opportunities for community input during the drafting of the plans over the next six months and a formal consultation period for submissions on draft plans early next year.  We encourage you to take part.  For further information please click here.

South East Queensland region round-up

Blue Energy has announced expectations to further explore and develop ATP 814P due to the extension of its agreement with KOGAS. This news comes as the Sapphire 4 CSG well began producing gas shortly after pumping was initiated. Blue Energy also confirmed its plans to continue pumping and de-pressurising the coal seam area to determine productivity and capacity. Blue Energy also established continuous gas flow from its Monslatt-7 and Monslatt-8H pilot wells, though flows have not yet reached an economic rate.
